Only two locations on earth allow humans to legally encounter whales. In 2015, Chad Copeland lead an expedition to the Kingdom of Tonga in search for whales. This exhibit showcases a few of the selected images from rare encounters with humpback whales.

The island of Vava'u is quite small yet with an estimated population of 10,000 people and limited resources, the condition of the people is unique relative to outside standards. Religion is the back bone of the entire community and although they don't have the capacity to purchase new gadgets, they are rich in kindness and belief.
The humpback whale calf pictured in this series is just 5 days old. As the mother sleeps, the newborn glides through the water with ease and agility. Surfacing for air and returning to the safety of its mother, it consumes nearly 50 gallons of milk per day.
